My teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in three fundamental principles of education, which have emerged from a diverse array of sources and are key to shaping the college experience. These principles advocate that college education should (1) enrich student agency, (2) encourage transformation, and (3) be grounded in rhetorical awareness. As a first-generation college student in my family, I have personally experienced the significance of these principles through my own struggles and triumphs. Growing up, my journey to education was far from easy. I vividly remember the days when, as a child, I had to wake up at 5:00 am to fetch drinking water for my family before embarking on a two-hour trek along treacherous mountain trails just to attend school. These experiences instilled in me a profound understanding of the importance of education and the immense value it holds in transforming lives.

Drawing from these principles, I carefully design my technical and professional communication (TPC) syllabi to foster an environment that empowers my students. I believe in creating meaningful assignments and activities that encourage students to take ownership of their learning and explore their passions. By doing so, I aim to nurture their agency, allowing them to become active participants in their educational journey. Moreover, I recognize the potential for transformation in each student and strive to create a space where personal growth and development are not only supported but actively encouraged. I see my role as a facilitator of growth, encouraging my students to embrace new perspectives, challenge assumptions, and expand their horizons. Through engaging discussions and thought-provoking activities, I hope to inspire a transformative experience that goes beyond the classroom.

Rhetorical awareness serves as a vital pillar in my approach to teaching. By grounding my instruction in rhetorical principles, I enable students to understand the power of effective communication and its impact on various audiences. This awareness equips them with valuable skills to navigate the complexities of the professional world, making them effective communicators in their chosen fields. As I provide writing assignments and design syllabi, I am continually guided by these principles. Be it in traditional face-to-face classrooms or online learning spaces, I am committed to fostering an environment where students feel inspired to learn, grow, and reach their full potential. Looking ahead, my ultimate goal is to see my students utilize the knowledge and skills they gain in my courses to become active participants in the 21st-century digital world. I want them to be equipped with the tools and confidence to apply their learning beyond the academic setting, becoming informed and engaged citizens in a rapidly evolving global society.
